„Enhancing the Capabilities of Positron Emission Tomography Departments to Provide High Quality Imaging and Therapies to Promote Safety Culture”

(Polish title:„Kultura bezpiecznego stosowania promieniowania jonizującego oraz doskonalenie systemu QA/QC w Pozytronowej Tomografii Emisyjnej w Polsce”)

Project description:

The project is implemented by the National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care (NCRPHC) as part of the International Atomic Energy Agency Technical Cooperation Program for 2022-2024, and aims to provide nuclear medicine departments using PET merit support in the field of quality assurance / control (QA / QC), providing specialized measuring equipment to those departments, assuring an appropriate practical training and promoting good practice in the field of patient and staff safety. Scheduled activities include the following:

• purchase of QA / QC equipment and software for calibration and standardization of PET scanners (including hybrid ones);
• organization of training in the field of standardization, calibration and QA / QC;
• possibility of financing scientific visits, participation in training and conferences organized by the IAEA.

The project allows the possibility of participation of all public nuclear medicine centers using PET in cancer diagnostics and therapy (approximately 20 units), and all training materials will be freely available and free of charge. The project will be a continuation of the topics undertaken as part of the POL9025 project, implemented in 2020-2021 in cooperation with the Polish Society of Nuclear Medicine, the National Consultant in nuclear medicine, the National Atomic Energy Agency and the Ministry of Health of Poland.

Due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 threat, participation in training and conferences will be possible remotely. The first meeting to open the project implementation is scheduled for April 2022. Up-to-date information about the events will be regularly posted on the NCRPHC website and sent on an ongoing basis via the newsletter (to subscribers).
