Summary of QA/QC workshops in PET/CT – September 26-27, 2023 and September 28-29, 2023.

Practical workshops, organized by NCRPHC at the Departments of Nuclear Medicine: at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw on September 26-27 and at the Copernicus Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center and Traumatology in Łódź on September 28-29, are part of project IAEA TC POL9027: „Enhancing the Capabilities of Positron Emission Tomography Departments to Provide High Quality Imaging and Therapies to Promote Safety Culture” implemented by the National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care in collaboration in the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme 2022-2024.

Events were dedicated to issues related to quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) in PET scanners and concerned, among the others, the correct preparation of various types of phantoms depending on the type of test as well as cross-calibration and standardization of PET scanners. It also included hands-on activities in performing acceptance tests for quality control for PET such as: resolution, sensitivity and set noise equivalent counts rate (NECR), with detailed discussion and demonstrations of subsequent stages of preparation, including daily and periodic tests used for PET.

We are convinced that the practical skills acquired by workshops participants will be used in their everyday work and will contribute to the promotion of good practices in the preparation and operation of PET scanners for the benefit of patients and staff.
