Krajowe centrum ochrony radiologicznej w ochronie zdrowia

In accordance with Article33u (1) (1) of the Act – Atomic Law (consolidated text, Dz. U. of 2021, item 1941) healthcare facilities which apply diagnostic radiology procedures are subject to internal clinical audits.

Internal clinical audits should be carried out at least once a year. In addition, an internal clinical audit should be carried out whenever it is considered necessary and in interventional radiology after each incident resulting in radiation-induced skin injury (Article33 v (1) of the Act). The audit takes place on the date specified by the manager of a healthcare facility (Article 33v (2) of the Act).

Internal clinical audits are carried out by at least two persons designated by the head of the facility who specialise in different fields and their qualifications match the scope of healthcare services rendered by the facility. In facilities performing only dental x-rays or bone densitometry (with the equipment used exclusively for one of the above-mentioned purposes), internal clinical audit should be carried out by at least two persons designated by the head of the facility who are authorised to apply diagnostic radiology procedures that are subject to the audit (in the case of a sole proprietorships, an internal clinical audit can be carried out by one person). Persons designated to carry out an internal clinical audit act on the basis of a written authorisation of the head of a healthcare facility (Article 33v (3 – 5)).

Within 14 days of the completion of an internal clinical audit, persons who carried out the audit draft an audit report. The report is submitted to the head of the facility who immediately passes on a copy of the report to an appropriate committee for procedures and external clinical audits (Article 33v (6) and (7) of the Act).

Committee chairmen transfer copies of reports to the National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care (Article 33v (8) of the Act).
