The event, organised by the National Centre as part of the POL9028 project, took place from November 3-6, 2025, in a hybrid format: on-site in Łódź and online on a dedicated conference platform (with the option of interactive participation). Additionally, the event was broadcast online at www.rpop.pl, in two language versions: Polish and English.
The workshop was intended for all professionals interested in enhancing radiation protection for patients and staff by promoting good medical practices and improving interventional radiology procedures. Over the four days, participants had the opportunity to listen to 26 lectures delivered by experts from Poland – Kamil Brzóska, Marcin Brodecki, Marcin Drabek – and from abroad (IAEA experts) – Andy Rogers, Annalisa Trianni, and Steve Ebdon-Jackson.
Among the special guests invited to participate in the event were: Paweł Grzesiowski – Chief Sanitary Inspector, Jerzy Walecki – National Consultant in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging and Vesna Gershan, Project Technical Officer, Radiation Protection Specialist, Radiation Protection of Patients Unit, IAEA.
During the event, the following topics were discussed: “Radiation risk in interventional radiology” (November 3); “Patients and occupational exposures in interventional radiology” (November 4); “Ethics and risk communication in interventional radiology” (November 5).
The final day, November 6th, was devoted to the summary and completion of the POL9028 Project, which was implemented by the National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care as part of the International Atomic Energy Agency Technical Cooperation Programme for 2024-2025. The closing meeting was chaired by Dariusz Kluszczyński, Director of the NCRPHC, and the opening remarks were delivered by Paweł Pytlarczyk, Vice President of the National Atomic Energy Agency, and Joanna Kujawa, Head of the Environmental Health Division, Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health.
The lectures that day covered topics such as the latest updates on angiography technology, information related to equipment procurement, and a national survey on patient doses in IR in Poland. The entire meeting was held in a workshop format – in addition to expert presentations, it also included discussions and exchange of experiences among participants.
Over 300 people expressed interest in participating in the whole event. We thank you for your involvement and positive feedback! We invite you to follow the National Centre’s website and participate in events, which will be organised as part of the next IAEA TC POL9029 Project. This new initiative will start in 2026 and will continue to strengthen the role of optimising radiation protection in interventional radiology practice, what was initiated under POL9028 Project.
